Coast Salish Traditional Territory/West Vancouver, BC — The First Nations Summit is pleased with this morning’s announcement by Prime Minister Steven Harper naming Steven Point as BC’s 28th Lieutenant Governor.
“The Prime Minister has chosen a highly regarded First Nations leader and a respected jurist for this distinguished position. Steven Point is known for his deep understanding of the history of British Columbia and will prove to be a very worthy representative for all the people of this province”, said Grand Chief Edward John, a member of the First Nations Summit Political Executive and the First Nations Leadership Council.
“The naming of Steven Point as BC’s next Lieutenant Governor is truly a milestone for First Nations people in BC especially in these times of reconciliation, recognition and relationship building between First Nations, British Columbia and Canada”, added Chief John.
