Coast Salish Territory (Vancouver, BC) – The First Nations Summit (FNS) congratulates Shawn A-in-chut Atleo on his re-election as National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations (AFN). Chief Atleo, a Hereditary Chief from the Ahousaht First Nation on Vancouver Island, was re-elected on the third ballot following a challenge from seven other candidates. He will be serving his second consecutive three year term as National Chief of the AFN.
“We are very pleased that Chief Atleo received such a strong mandate to continue his work for a second three year term”, said Chief Doug White, member of the First Nations Summit Political Executive.
“A-in‐chut has shown strong and principled leadership grounded in his culture and this has been a unifying force for First Nations across Canada. We look forward to continuing to work with him over the next three years”, added Chief White.
